The standard water treatment system prevalent in Nigeria is made of typically an aeration/ sedimentation tank with continuous chemical injection process. Further downstream is the Carbon; Resin and Sand filter installations that are manually backwashed on a regular basis.
The major drawback to this approach is that it depends on manual process and there is a high risk of lapses through human error. Other disadvantages include the following:

- Requires personnel to operate the system (most of whom are not suitably trained).
- Chemical overdosing or under dosing.
- System contamination by human activities.
- Challenges with sourcing and quality of chemicals purchased.
- Requires regular maintenance/monitoring
- More expensive to operate in the long run (overheads +product costs)
- Salinity, Alkalinity, Hardness and some other challenges are hardly resolved by this treatment process.

Our Nano-Filtration system while similar to Reverse Osmosis (RO) has some basic advantages over RO such as
